Whether it's deep in the forest or part of a well-tended garden, the delicate beauty of white birch always seems to stand out. Tom Tamborello share a couple of easy projects that will bring this natural elegance to your table.
White birch branches at least 2-inches thick
Poly acrylic, clear satin or matte finish
Raffia (optional)
Tea light candles
Saw Drill
1 1/2-inch Forstner bit (spade or paddle may also be used) Vise
Sand Paper
Paint Brush
1. Cut birch branch to desired length.
2. Secure branch in vise, vertically.
3. Set the drill into the end of the branch, make sure it is centered.
4. Begin drilling.
5. Drill at least 3/4-inch deep.
6. Remove from vise, set votive candle in hole.
7. If you like, use raffia to bind two or more candle holders together Note* Never leave a lit candle unattended.
1. Repeat above steps 1 through 4.
2. Drill at least 1 1/2-inches into branch 3. Remove branch from vise 4. Saw off hollowed out section of branch to make ring 5. Set branch back in vise and repeat to make more rings 6. Sand edges and interior of rings 7. Apply 2 coats of a clear acrylic sealer. Let dry.
