Concrete House

Concrete as a building material conjures up images of hard, cold sidewalks and driveways - but one artisan is changing that perception. Master craftsman and builder Mat Rogers has a passion for concrete - but not in the typical sense. He has given the material a warm, soft and inviting look, with the construction of a 4400-square-foot home that demonstrates the endless interior design possibilities of concrete.

The spectacular home showcases concrete's decorative and distinctive beauty - from a ten-foot tall, double-sided fireplace to a kitchen island that appears to float, to a bar that, at first glance, looks like it's made of elegant wood, or even leather.

The versatility of concrete allows Rogers to create rich colors, various designs and clean lines for clients through his concrete design business.

Rogers is also embarking on a new green building tool, called Fly-crete, made of 100% recycled material. Different kinds of aggregate, including recycled glass and river rock, not only make the material sustainable, it provides interesting design elements to everything from sinks to tabletops.
