Only the second such elevated park in the world, The High Line in New York City opened in June 2009 to almost universal acclaim for its dazzling blend of plants, grasses and trees combined with spectacular urban views.
Lisa Switkin of James Corner Field Operations, the landscape design firm in charge of the project, explains the "Keep It Wild" philosophy behind their design, which included rugged meadow plants and native species like liatras, coneflowers, goldenrod, sumac, smokebush and mountain mint.
