Westerparkgasfabriek

The city of Amsterdam is world-renowned for its spectacular house-lined canals and myriad bridges. Like many other large port cities, Amsterdam also has an industrial history that has left it with its share of industrial wasteland.
In the late 19th century, a coal burning gas work, or gasfabriek, was built on the west side of the city. When coal generated gas was replaced by natural gas, the polluted industrial site was abandoned and left in disrepair.
With characteristic Dutch resourcefulness, a plan was set to rework the desolate landscape.
